Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Education Associate Dean for Research, School of Medicine and Deputy Director, WVU Cancer Institute
Dr. Laura F. Gibson is the Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Education for the WVU Health Sciences Center, the Associate Dean for Research for the School of Medicine and the Deputy Director of the West Virginia University Cancer Institute. She is the Alexander B. Osborn Distinguished Professorship in Hematological Malignancies. Dr. Gibson has a long standing interest in tumor microenvironment (TME) and specifically tumor-stromal cell interactions in the marrow that impact on progression of disease and response to therapy. She has been the recipient of extramural support for over 20 years including both investigator initiated grants in her area of scientific interest as well as serving as the PI of the WVUCI P30 CoBRE in Signal Transduction and Cancer. Prior to her current administrative roles she served as the VC for Research in the WVU Department of Pediatrics during which she participated as a HSTA and INBRE Program faculty mentor providing a wide range of trainee mentoring opportunities and development of faculty mentoring strategies. Her current focus in on optimizing research infrastructure at the Health Sciences Center and collaborating with University leadership to contribute to an optimal scientific work environment.
